Paddy McGuinness bathed with washing-up liquid as a nipper because his family was too poor to afford shampoo or soap.
The Top Gear host said his mum had so little cash she would make him scrub with pot-washing liquid she had nicked from her cleaning job at a bingo hall in Bolton.
The dad-of-three, 47, who reportedly now boasts a £7.5million fortune, said: “One of my first girlfriends…I went to her house and I was having a shower and she passed me this shower gel, that squirty foam stuff.
“I was like, `f****** hell!’
“I swear to God, all my life growing up we had washing up liquid in the bath.

“I never knew what shower gel was. I never knew what shampoo was.
“That was luxury to me. It wasn’t Fairy either.
“My mum was a cleaner at the local bingo hall and it was stuff she brought home from the bingo hall. It was in a vat.
“I was half expecting her to put the pots in with me.

“I used to think that was the norm.
“My mum brought me up on her own and we just didn’t have the money for those kind of things.’’
Paddy’s fortunes have certainly changed now, as he and wife Christine have since moved their three kids into a lavish new house.
The pair shares twins Leo and Penelope, seven, and daughter Felicity, four, and Paddy said that his children are used to much more luxurious life than he was when he was younger.
He told Daily Star: “When we were getting this house done, we used to drive up and let them look from outside.
“The first thing my daughter says is, ‘Where’s the swimming pool?’ I was like, ‘Is that a normal question to ask someone?
“This is so far removed from my childhood, and she said it’s just normal, totally normal, ‘Where’s the housekeeper living, Daddy?'”
