It has been almost 20 years since audiences first came across this psychological thriller that took the world by storm.
With its plot straightforward, director David Fincher created a film that stands the test of time.
The movie’s stars included Hollywood icons Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart as a mother and daughter whose new home is invaded by burglars, played by Forest Whitaker, Jared Leto (who turns 50 today, December 26) and Dwight Yoakam.
The film used computer-generated imagery to create the illusion of the camera moving through the house’s rooms, leaving viewers absolutely shocked and hooked throughout the 112 minute spectacle.
Now as Jared Leto turns 50, Daily Star looks at where some of the film’s cast are now.
Jodie Foster
Jodie Foster, 59, was already a huge Hollywood star by the time she took on the role of the mother, Meg, having starred in films including The Silence Of The Lambs (1991), Bugsy Malone (1976) and Contact (1987).
However, Panic Room propelled her to new levels of stardom, with fans going into meltdown after how well she portrayed as the film’s main protagonist – so it’s no surprise she now has an estimated net worth of $100m (£74.6m).
A few years back, the star was at the centre of rumours that she was gay and received major backlash.
In 2013, she addressed her coming out in a speech after receiving the Cecil B DeMille Award at the 70th Golden Globe Awards and married the photographer, Alexandra Hedison, 52, in 2014.
As well as taking on producer and director duties in her career, she directed the Arkangel episode in the psychological series Black Mirror and two episodes of Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black.
Kristen Stewart
Like her co-star Jodie Foster, Kristen Stewart, 31, rose to fame as a child actor in huge Hollywood films, which only propelled after Panic Room and included the Twilight saga and the Jumanji spin-off Zathura.
Throughout her acting career, which has spanned 22 years, the star has been recognised for numerous awards, including a British Academy Film Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe Award.
She was the world’s highest-paid actress in 2012, following her portrayal as Bella Swan, the lead protagonist in the vampire saga Twilight, which banked £2.5billion worldwide.
At the time, Kristen was in a relationship with her co-star Robert Pattinson.
Since then, she has come out as queer and is engaged to screenwriter Dylan Meyer.
The star most recently played the leading actress in the 2021 critically acclaimed movie, Spencer, about the late Princess Diana – which will undoubtedly bag some massive awards as Kristen does an incredible job playing the late British icon.
Forest Whittaker
Although Forest Whittaker, 60, had had many roles in films before being in Panic Room, including Good Morning Vietnam, The Colour of Money, and Blown Away, the role as the criminal Burnham propelled him into legendary status.
He then continued to bag blockbuster movies, including The Last King of Scotland, Marvel’s Black Panther, and most recently, the Christmas spectacle Jingle Jangle: A Christmas journey.
He married the actress Keisha Nash in 1996.
The two met on the set of the movie Blown Away – they have two daughters together and raised his son and Keisha’s daughter from their previous relationships.
He filed for divorce in December 2018, citing irreconcilable differences.
The star has ptosis – a drooping of the upper eyelid – in his left eye, which critics have said gives him a “contemplative look” – however Forest has said he has considered surgery to fix it, as it affects his vision.
Dwight Yoakam
Making a name for himself as a proficient actor, Dwight David Yoakam, 65, has also enjoyed success as a singer, songwriter and musician.
Undoubtedly one of America’s best country singers, he has been nominated at the Grammys multiple times throughout his career, of which he has won two.
He won his first Grammy Award for his hit Ain’t That Lonely Yet, a single from his fifth studio album, This Time.
In the past, he had been previously linked to celebrities such as Wynonna Judd, Sharon Stone, Bridget Fonda and Karen Duffy.
But he started dating photographer Emily Joyce in late 2010, and they got married in March 2020 before welcoming their son – Dalton – in August of the same year.
Jared Leto
The third criminal in Panic Room, Jared Leto became an international sensation in both the music and acting industry.
He’s most iconically known for his portrayal of a transgender woman in the award-winning movie Dallas Buyers Club, for which he received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
He formed a rock band called 30 Seconds to Mars along with his brother Shannon Leto and his friends.
The band experimented with progressive metal and alternative. Generally, their lyrics are an allusion to philosophy and spirituality, reflecting the style of their favourite rock band, Pink Floyd, and their hits include The Kills and Closer To Edge.
Jared has dated several women but has never married. He was in a relationship with actress Cameron Diaz from 1999 to 2003.
And, most recently, he stars alongside Lady Gaga and Adam Driver in House Of Gucci.
