Perrie Edwards has recalled the moment her tonsils were removed after they swelled to the size of ‘balloons’ while working on the debut Little Mix album.
The 27-year-old singer was taken to surgery in 2012, shortly after winning The X Factor in 2011, along with bandmates Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and now ex-member Jesy Nelson.
The beauty says she’ll “cringe” whenever she hears recordings of her music from the debut album, DNA, writes The Mirror.
The star was suffering from inflamed tonsils when the tunes were being recorded, and says her singing talent improved after she underwent the operation.
Speaking on Apple Music 1, Perrie said: “On X Factor we had no sleep and my tonsils were the size of balloons.

“I went to see a specialist and he said, ‘I’ve done this job for 30 years and I’ve never seen tonsils like this. I don’t know how you can breathe.’
“They took them out and then my voice completely changed for the better.”
Joking about how her voice use to sound, she said: “I was like Kermit the Frog.”
In August 2018, Perrie revealed she had further surgery on her throat following treatment to her oesophagus.

The oesophagus connects the mouth to the stomach.
Following her surgery, she wrote on Instagram while at a restaurant: “Only I would have an operation then ask to be taken to the ivy for my favourite chocolate bomb dessert!
“My oesophagus can’t come between me and my love of food. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
Little Mix fans might not need to wait too long to hear new music being sung by Perrie and co as they confirmed earlier this month that they are working on new music – following the shock departure of Jesy in December.

Days before Christmas, the band made the devastating news to fans on Instagram.
Jesy had decided to leave the girl group after nine years together, revealing that being in the band had affected her mental health.
She said performing with the girls and experiencing the journey was the “most incredible time” of her life.
