Piers Morgan beats GMB's Susanna Reid to win best presenter gong at TRIC Awards 2021

Piers Morgan has picked up a gong at the 2021 Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Awards after he was pipped to the post by fan-favourites Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnely at the NTAs.

The 56-year-old was clearly disappointed after he lost out to the comedy duo last Friday, but on Wednesday night the father-of-four cherished the moment as he took home the award in the News Presenter category.

The former Britain’s Got Talent judge successfully stole the award from his former Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid and broadcast presenter Huw Edwards at the Central London event.

Prior to his award, the doting dad shared his competitive nature online as he tweeted out a snarky comment to his successors Ant and Dec.

The star penned: “Looking forward to the prestigious @TRICawards later today.

“I’m nominated for News Presenter of the Year, up against @thehuwedwards and someone called @susannareid100.

“On a positive note, at least Ant & Dec can’t win it,” he quipped.

When the TV host accepted his well-deserved award, he brought his co-host up on stage with him while he delivered a sweet and cheeky acceptance speech in her honour.

He told the audience: “I know it all ended a bit dramatically earlier this year. But we had a good run … five years. And I spent all five years with Susanna Reid.

“It’s a bit weird. You end up like you’ve got this extra wife. And she doesn’t even get the good bits.

“And they’re very good bits, I have to say,” he confessed.

And the ex-newspaper editor couldn’t help but share his success online as he posted a snap of himself as he held the gleaming accolade.

He captioned the photo of himself: “Victory! @TRICawards First place medal #TVPresenterOfTheYear.”

Fans of the hit ITV daytime show will remember the iconic moment Piers walked out of the show while they were live on air after he refused to apologise for his controversial comments about Meghan Markle.

The TV presenter laid into the Duchess of Sussex over her explosive Oprah Winfrey interview with her husband Prince Harry, in which she revealed her experiences with suicidal thoughts early on in their marriage.

The mum-of-two also went on to raise issues of racism within the royal family after she claimed there were discussions over the skin colour of her first-born son Archie.

The host declared that he didn’t believe her claims which led to the ferocious Twitter spat between himself and weatherman Alex Beresford.
