Piers Morgan compares himself to Winston Churchill amid Meghan Markle 'debacle'

Former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has taken another swipe at the “woke brigade” in a revealing interview, as he compared his outspoken stance to the late Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

After his tell-all interview with American TV host Tucker Carlson in April, Piers has now made his way to Australian screens to share his views on being cancelled and woke culture.

Appearing on 60 Minutes Australia, the Life Stories presenter sat down for an interview with Karl Stefanovic, during which he expressed his views on freedom of speech.

Piers said: “It’s the old Winston Churchill line, isn’t it? If you’ve got enemies it means good, because it means at some stage in your life you’ve stood up for something you believe in and freedom of speech to me is more important than, actually, the Meghan Markle debacle or anything else.”

Later, he said: “You stand up for yourself, you stand up for what you believe in and you protect the basic freedoms of the country you’re in.”

He added: “Even in Australia, the woke brigade are snapping at people’s heels trying to put people back in their box now. It started in America, it’s come to Britain, it’s come to Australia, and it’s a real menace.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Piers went on to express that he believes that social media is very much to blame for people’s views being policed.

He explained: “You sign up to an echo-chamber, most people just follow people they agree with, who reinforce your opinion about everything.

“I think we are in a cultural war and I prepared to fight it as a liberal appealing to fellow liberals who’ve just lost their minds.”

He also had a message for his “fellow liberals” and said: “Look, think about what you’re doing, stop telling everybody else how to lead their lives.”

In March, Good Morning Britain was hit by approximately 41,000 Ofcom complaints after viewers felt uncomfortable with Piers’ views on Meghan and Harry’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired on ITV.

The brash presenter said he did not believe Meghan’s claims that she had felt suicidal and spoke indiscriminately about it while presenting the morning show.

Since departing ways with GMB, Piers has continued to express the urgency regarding one’s freedom of speech and has been vocal about his dislike for cancel culture and those who claim to be “woke”.

The father-of-four has also continued to promote his book Wake Up: Why the World Has Gone Nuts since stepping down from his breakfast position.
