Piers Morgan could be in the first male partnership on Strictly Come Dancing

Piers Morgan may be the last person who fans of Strictly Come Dancing would expect to don his dancing shoes and take part in the BBC competition.

But Sicilian professional Giovanni Pernice is convinced they would make a fantastic partnership in the next series of the hit show.

Appearing on Steph’s Packed Lunch today, Giovanni was asked if he thought it was the right time for a male professional dancer and a male celebrity to join up for the first time in the show’s long history.

“100 per cent, 100 per cent,” he told presenter Steph McGovern without hesitation.

“I already said if you have an idea of doing a same sex couple I would definitely be the first, ready to do it.

“Again, we are in 2021,” the star continued. “You know things are moving and we are definitely ready, definitely ready for that.”

Reflecting on last year’s first ever same-sex paring with Katya Jones and Nicola Adams, who unfortunately were forced to withdraw early due to Nicola contracting COVID-19, the dancer had only positive things to say.

But when it came to his partner of choice, Giovanni grinned: “I did some interviews that I love – would love to dance with Piers Morgan.”

Anton du Beke joked Piers now has some time on his hands

Anton du Beke, fellow Strictly pro, chimed in: “He does have some time on his hands, I will say.”

“Now is the right time, he’s got time to do it,” Giovanni agreed.

“Would you be able to control him though?” Steph asked, struggling to contain her scepticism.

“I would like to try,” the pro enthused. “I like to challenge myself.”

Laughing at the concept, Anton pointed out: “You seem to have genuinely given this some thought,” as Giovanni shrugged and nodded it was true.

Also during today’s show, Katie Price said Piers should have expected the reaction to his explosive rant about Meghan Markle on Good Morning Britain following the Oprah interview.

The mum-of-five said: “I like Piers, I know him off telly, I like the man. But also, when he’s on telly, he does say things.

“He rubs people up the wrong way, and the thing is if you give an opinion and people don’t like it, you’ve got to expect to take it on the chin back,” she declared.

“I just respected what they [Meghan and Harry] said but at the end of the day, none of us is going to know the truth,” the star added.

Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12.30pm on Channel 4, and the next series of Strictly Come Dancing returns to the BBC this autumn.
