Piers Morgan feared he’d be ‘one of the unlucky ones’ to die as he battled Covid

Piers Morgan has given a stark and candid overview of his battle with Covid, revealing his fears about whether he would make it through or become one of the “unlucky ones”.

In his column for the Mail on Sunday Piers sets out how he believes he caught Covid while at the Euros final between England and Italy almost two weeks ago.

Despite reassuring his wife, Celia, that Wembley was Covid secure the former Good Morning Britain Presenter admits that after a few drinks his guard started to fall.

Worryingly with so many un-ticketed fans in the stadium it would have been impossible for officials to confirm people had been double jabbed or given a negative test in recent days.

Piers wrote: “My confidence that this event would be Covid safe had disintegrated – it was turning into an unregulated free-for-all.”

In the following days at home the 56-year-old began experiencing symptoms connected with Covid and after a positive lateral flow test and then PCR it was an inescapable fact that Piers had Covid.

According to Piers he experienced high fever, cold sweats, “ferocious coughing” and sneezing and “strange aches” all over his body.

In his column he recounts his former co-presenter Susanna Reid calling him to check out he was.

Asking if he was okay, Piers replied: “Yes, should be. Most unnerving thing is late at night on your own pondering if you’re going to be one of the unlucky ones.

“Yes, that 4.44am psychosis.”

After a week of isolating at home Piers wrote that he’d developed “alarming chest pains” and made the mistake of googling the symptoms.

He wrote: “For an uncomfortable and quite scary hour, I paced my room, fretting. Then the pain went as soon as it came. God, what a relief.”

Out of isolation Piers described Covid as the “roughest” he has felt from any illness in his “adult life” and his final advice was people to “Get Jabbed!”
