Piers Morgan lashes out at teen Greta Thunberg for making his hayfever worse

Piers Morgan has bizarrely blamed Greta Thunberg for his crippling hayfever.

The ousted Good Morning Britain host says his allergies have been more severe than ever this year due to a drop in traffic pollution – which he reckons allows bigger pollen bombs to strike sufferers.

56-year-old Piers said: “I’ve had shockingly debilitating hay fever for the past few weeks, just as I did at the same time last year when I thought it was Covid.

“Apparently, lockdowns have made many sufferers’ symptoms worse than usual because there’s been less traffic pollution circulating in the air to help break up the pollen particulate before it bombs into our nasal passages.

“(I wonder if Greta Thunberg has considered this unfortunate downside to her environmental campaigning?)”.

Dad-of-four Piers also whined he was forced to take the “nuclear option” of blasting his hayfever with the same powerful steroids cyclist Bradley Wiggins, 41, was accused of taking to enhance his 2012 Tour de France performance.

The ex-breakfast presenter added: “Obviously, I don’t want to cast any aspersions, but three things happened within 12 hours of me starting the steroid course: 1) My hay fever symptoms disappeared.

“2) I was consumed with gamma-ray-level energy.

“3) I smashed my Peloton exercise-bike record,” Piers quipped.

The controversial broadcaster targeted Greta, 18, in his hayfever rant despite the young Swede having had virtually zero impact on the recent dip in cars on UK roads.

A sudden drop in traffic to 1955 levels at the peak of the Covid pandemic in the UK was instead down to commuters not going to offices.

The 2007 Time Trends In Allergic Disorders In The UK study linked exhaust fumes with a rise of allergies and killer respiratory illnesses.

Google Trends data released on Monday showed Brits’ searches for hayfever has soared from less than 50,000 to 74,000 in the last year.

But the explosion in cases here is said to be down to the recent bout of warm weather in Britain causing a sudden spike in the pollen count – and nothing to do with the theory smog breaks up pollen “bombs”.

The Met Office on Monday did not link the UK’s recent rise in pollen counts to a drop in pollution.

A spokeswoman said: “The high/very high pollen levels forecast for parts of the UK at times during last week and again this week are what we would expect for this phase in the grass pollen season, at this time of year.”
