Piers Morgan mocks 'tone-deaf narcissists' Meghan and Harry ahead of Oprah chat

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has raged at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after a short snippet of their upcoming chat with Oprah Winfrey was released on Monday.

As Prince Harry and Meghan sat next to each other in an idyllic setting in California, they opened up about what they had faced over the past year, admitting they had found it very tough.

Whilst many feel sympathy for the pair, who have been stripped of their patronages after stepping back from their royal duties, Piers is certainly not one of them.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Piers slammed Harry and Meghan as “self-serving” and “narcissistic” for the tell-all chat, letting rip at the couple.

He wrote: “In the most jarring part of the Oprah tease, Harry says ‘it’s been unbelievably tough for the two of us but at least we have each other.’

“It really does take a staggering degree of self-wallowing narcissism to say those words after a year in which 2.5 million people have died in a global pandemic and tens of millions have lost their jobs and are suffering horrific financial hardship.”

He added: “To say them in the expansive garden of your luxury Californian estate, as the glorious year-round sun beats down on you and your family while you bank gazillions trading off your royal status, is the most tone-deaf load of entitled garbage since Marie Antoinette was told that starving French citizens had no bread and sneered: ‘Let them eat cake!’

“And to do all this as Harry’s grandfather, Prince Philip, lies seriously ill in a London hospital is frankly outrageous.”

Piers asked “But what more should we expect from a couple who recently tried to lecture the Queen on ‘service’?

“The only service these two self-obsessed, rankly hypocritical, professional victims know is self-service.”

The TV presenter voiced his opinion on air on Monday as he discussed the interview on air with his co-star Susanna Reid.

Piers and Susanna clashed with each other and a number of guests as they voiced their thoughts on the couple, with Susanna backing Harry and Meghan on their interview and decisions.

But Piers slammed them for only wanting positive coverage from the media, competing them to world leaders Kim Jong-Un and Vladimir Putin, leaving Susanna stunned.

He also claimed that Harry was using his mental health as an excuse, saying: “Yes it is the great refrain isn’t it these days? Oh, it is affecting my mental health, you cannot criticise me.

“It is a great defence for everybody these days, isn’t it? You know. Sorry. I think a lot of people in this country have been going through mental health problems in the past year due to a global pandemic.

“And they probably have a limited amount of sympathy for a pair living in a $14 million mansion in Santa Barbara, in California. Yeah, yeah.

“Talk to Granny about what real duty and service is about, Harry.”

Susanna clapped back: “Having a lot of money does not stop you having a mental health crisis.”

GMB continues tomorrow at 6am on ITV.
