Piers Morgan quit Good Morning Britain after talking to the ghost of his late manager.
The presenter begged for afterlife advice after he stormed off on-air after being slammed for his controversial views about Meghan Markle and her Oprah Winfrey interview.
Piers said he first realised the situation had got “more serious” than he first thought when he got a supportive text from fellow TV motormouth Jeremy Clarkson.
He said: “To compound my growing twitchiness, I got a text from my old foe Jeremy Clarkson that read: ‘I am completely on your side.’”
Piers added: “Oh s***. This must be more serious than I thought.”
The 55-year-old then called on advice from manager John Ferriter, who died in 2019.
He said: “I went for a walk and spoke to a couple of close, trusted friends.”
He said he “pondered what my manager John Ferriter” would do, “in a moment reminiscent of that scene in Top Gun where Maverick begs his dead buddy Goose to guide him”.
Piers added: “All I heard back was John’s regular refrain: ‘Trust your gut!’” He quit the show immediately.
His storming off of GMB was the result of a live bitter clash with presenter Alex Beresford.
Writing in his column for the Mail on Sunday, Piers admitted that he regretted his storming off the set now.
He said of the row: “I knew it wasn’t a good look, the great snowflake-basher running away from confrontation. And on reflection, I shouldn’t have done it.
“But in the heat of the moment, in my rather strained state of mind, this seemed the less worse option.”
He added that his reaction was down to being “tired and agitated”.
“As he delivered his censorious lecture… I felt the steam rising inside me,” he wrote.

Piers’ comments about Meghan Markle on the show sparked more than 57,000 complaints to Ofcom, making it the most complained about TV moment in the UK of all time.
As well as lodging her own Ofcom complaint, the Duchess of Sussex also contacted the CEO of ITV to express her concern.
Piers claims he was not made aware of the former actress’s submission by ITV bosses until he had quit GMB.
