Piers Morgan has revealed the frightening details about how he believes he caught Covid and his subsequent struggle with the virus in the following week.
At his lowest the former Good Morning Britain presenter feared he may succumb to the disease and become “one of the unlucky ones” to die.
As he battled with Covid at his Sussex home he was left with fever that made him “boil” and “ferocious coughing”.
In his column for the Mail on Sunday the 56-year-old explains how he believe he caught Covid at the final of the Euros as Wembley after letting his guard down while enjoying a few drinks.
Piers paints a worrying picture outside Wembley where after years of attending matches he felt it was “likely to ‘kick off'”.
In one of the strangest moments at Wembley Piers explains how he was manhandled through the Wembley barriers by two men pretending to be his bodyguard.
“When we arrived at the first security barrier, it was complete mayhem as scores of drunken, aggressive, ticketless yobs tried to charge through. It was not a situation where having a recognisable face was a massive bonus.
“A guy suddenly appeared at my side and said: ‘Need some help, Piers?'”
Piers says he was “marched up to a steward” where the “bodyguards” told officials they were his security and worried for his safety.
Piers wrote: “The harassed steward clocked me, instantly replied ‘Yes’, opened the metal gate and ushered us through without checking whether we had tickets or a valid Covid status.
“As he did so, my ‘bodyguard’ bustled through too with his mate, their arms protectively around us. Then they both ran off laughing. They didn’t give a damn about my safety – they’d used me to get in without tickets or Covid checks.
Piers had recovered from Covid now and puts his recovery down to being double jabbed.
He said: “My own advice is very simple: GET JABBED!”
