Piers Morgan says he’ll 'identify as a woman' to get his old GMB job back

Piers Morgan has revealed he’ll identify as a woman in order to return to his old Good Morning Britain desk, saying he’ll take the show back to the “peak” ratings of 1.9 million he left them.

The former GMB host, 56, spoke out in his latest Mail on Sunday column, and pointed out how ratings for the ITV news show have dropped by nearly 75 per cent since his last show in March.

This comes after ratings for Piers’ former show have been plunged to their lowest ever level – with a mere 451,000 people tuning in to Wednesday’s show presented by Adil Ray.

So Piers, who has a history of trolling his former ITV news show and colleagues, decided to make GMB a rather unique offer to save the show.

The outspoken broadcaster penned: “Good Morning Britain’s tumbling ratings have plunged to their lowest ever level as just 451,000 people tuned in to Wednesday’s show with comedian Adil Ray sitting in my old chair.

“Newspaper reports today suggest ITV want Susanna Reid to have a female presenting partner to stop the rot.

“If it appeases the woke brigade, I’m prepared to identify as a woman to get the ratings back to the peak of 1.9million where I left them.”

This is not the first time that prankster Piers has claimed he’s identifying as a woman, as he previously put himself forward to fight a retired champion boxer – Nicolas Adams – in a celebrity bout.

Nicola, who is known as The Lioness, wrote on Twitter: “Which famous person would you like to see me fight ??? I know you want Piers Morgan but it needs to be a female [laughing emoji].”

Piers then replied: “I’m currently identifying as female… bring it on.”

Viewership for the ITV breakfast show has been in steady decline since Piers left back in March over his explosive Meghan Markle comments and on-screen row with his co-star Alex Beresford – after peaking at 1.9 million viewers just days before he quit.

Piers had ruffled feathers that week by saying he “didn’t believe a word she [Meghan] says” following her claims of suicidal thoughts.

The next day, March 10, ITV announced Piers was leaving the show in a statement which read: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

However, GMB ratings dipped as soon as Piers left, falling to 850,000 viewers by the end of the first week with stand-in host Ben Shephard and Susanna, and by March 15, average viewers were down by 255,700 compared to the previous Monday.

Piers has previously hinted at returning to the show, and even claimed ITV bosses have reached out to him to try and get him back on the show.
