Piers Morgan says Sharon Osbourne is a 'true friend' as she 'stands by him'

Piers Morgan has praised his “true friend” Sharon Osbourne after she rushed to defend him after he quit his presenting role on Good Morning Britain.

The 55-year-old former Mirror editor, who was sacked from the publication over the fake Iraq “torture” photographs, stormed off the ITV set of GMB on Tuesday after he was slammed on air by colleague weatherman Alex Beresford.

The argument on air between the pair came after Piers spent months ranting about Meghan Markle on the breakfast show as Alex raised his opinion that Piers needed to tone it down.

Instead, Piers quit the show hours later after GMB was flooded with 41,000 complaints to TV watchdog Ofcom.

After Piers quit, Sharon rushed to her own Twitter account to tell her 2.2million fans that she “stands with him”.

She tweeted: “Piers Morgan I am with you. I stand by you. People forget that you’re paid for your opinion and that you’re just speaking your truth.”

A day later Piers quote-tweeted Sharon’s tweet and wrote his own message back in support of her as he took a second to appreciate the fact his friend would have been trolled herself.

Piers tweeted back saying “fake friends run away” as he thanked Sharon.

He tweeted: “When stuff like this happens, true friends run towards you, fake friends run away.

“I love Sharon Osbourne because she always stays true to herself.

“She knew she would get abused by the woke brigade for tweeting this – but did it anyway because it’s what she believes.”

Piers fans have been left massively undivided by his remarks and behaviour towards Meghan Markle.

One fan tweeted back in response: “Stop Playing the victim Piers. You’re a bully and a bigoted moron.”

Another said: “Piers you walked off because you finally got your just desserts, quick to give it the biggun and billy the big b****x and we have to sit there and listen to you moan all the f*****g time, now you get what you deserve you are a t**t no one likes you at all period.”

“You’ve dug yourself a hole and just making it worse for yourself. You should never dismiss anyone out of hand as lying when it comes to racism and mental health,” said another.

They continued: “This is not about being woke. This is common decency. I like you Piers but you’ve overstepped the mark.”

However some rushed to defend him amidst people celebrating the fact he has quit the ITV show.

“I love you Piers,” said one lone fan among the backlash.
