Piers Morgan slams Anthea Turner over 'fat-shaming' tweet

Piers Morgan took to social media to slam presenter Anthea Turner after she posted a Twitter rant alongside a controversial image of a woman in a wheelchair.

The 60-year-old former Blue Peter presenter was ranting about the government “closing gyms” but “keeping McDonalds” open but she caused offence with the cartoon image of a woman using a wheelchair saying: “Put a mask on! you’re putting my health at risk!”

Piers shared Anthea’s posts and penned angrily: “What the hell is this? Have you lost your mind, Anthea? Just despicable.”

Morgan then shared a tweet from Labour MP Jess Phillips which read: “The Anthea Turner thing this morning has just about done me in.

“I just wish the idiots would just admit that the wind on their face is more important than my sister in law’s life while she has chemo. Stop with the god damn hierarchy of whose life matters!!!”

Alongside the controversial cartoon, Anthea had penned: “I’m incensed by the selfish attitudes of people who can’t see we actually are ‘all in this together’ & wilful destruction has an impact on us all especially those with other illnesses pushed down the line & charities who are missing out on funding we have to take responsibility.

“If the government put half the amount of money into health as they have in locking us up we wouldn’t be in this mess. Keep McDonald’s open and close gyms many council run and open air – Great.”

Twitter users were outraged over Anthea’s post as many accused her of ‘fat-shaming’ and ‘ableism’.

One penned: “Disgusting. Be ashamed. You have no idea why this person is in a wheelchair. How dare you!”

A second typed: “If you’re trying to start a conversation about the fitness industry closing down but not junk food outlets, I can think of better ways than fat-shaming via an ableist cartoon. The fact that you’ve said ‘go for it!’ shows you’re more interested in drama not debate.”

While another wrote: “How dare you, how ignorant can one person be! I have a son who is a full-time wheelchair user & overweight due to his medication, he is severely medically vulnerable and relies on us who are able to, to wear a mask to keep him safe. V. poor choice of a visual for your argument.”

“Why would you post something like this?”, added another.

A fourth wrote: “Wow! Ableism, fat shaming and anti mask all in one tweet. Disgusting, you should be ashamed.”
