Piers Morgan has said he felt he ‘wasn’t allowed an opinion’ on former Suits actress Meghan Markle following her tell-all with Prince Harry about her time in the Royal Family.
The Duchess of Sussex sat down with Oprah Winfrey to film a two hour epxosé in which she dropped a series of bombshell claims including alleging that the race of her then unborn baby was branded a ‘concern’ and that she was refused professional mental heath support.
Speaking for the fist time in detail on TV about being axed from Good Morning Britain after saying he didn’t believe her, Piers told Fox News: “I still don’t believe what they were saying.
“In particular, I don’t believe what Meghan Markle said. 17 different claims by the pair of them have now been proven to be either completely untrue or massively exaggerated or unprovable.”
He added to host Trucker Calson: “I didn’t believe Meghan Markle.
“A huge furore erupted throughout the day. I was an outrage.
“I wasn’t allowed to have an opinion that I didn’t believe what she was saying, even though it was clear to me in real-time, as I was watching the interview that there were a number of things which just couldn’t be true.”
Piers clashed with Good Morning Britain’s weatherman Alex Beresford following CBS and ITV’s decision to air the provocative special.
In particular, Piers demanded to know more detail about the unnamed royal who was said to have ‘raised concerns’ about Archie’s skin colour.
Alex argued that no matter what the context the comment would have been wrong and highly offensive.
Meghan told Oprah that in a conversation that she wasn’t apart of, a high-ranking royal ‘raised concerns and conversations about how dark his skin would be when he [Archie] is born’.
She told Oprah that conversations which involved Harry took place when she was pregnant.
When asked who said it, she refused to add any more context adding: “I think that would be very damaging to them”.
However, when he joined his wife for the interview Harry referred to a single conversation adding: “That conversation, I am never going to share. But at the time it was awkward. I was a bit shocked.”
When pushed for the question by Oprah, Harry replied: “No. I am not comfortable sharing that.”
Off camera, Harry added to the US TV legend that the alleged comment wasn’t made by with The Queen or the Duke of Edinburgh.
Piers’ comments sparked over 57,000 official Ofcom complaints prompting ITV bosses to ask him to apologise.
He refused an instead quit the show.
