Prince William told comedians he was “relieved” after he wasn’t the butt of their jokes at the Royal Variety Performance.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the Royal Albert Hall for the performance.
However, William was clearly worried that he would be the centre of jokes after the challenging year the royals have faced.
In 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey hit headlines around the world shocking thousands.
Prince Andrew’s ongoing legal lawsuit was also not commented on.
The Prince’s life was clearly decided by comedians to be avoided.
The event was broadcast last night but was pre-recorded last month.
Comedian Josh Widdicombe said Duke was pleased to escape the event without being teased.
Josh told Hello!: “William mentioned he was happy that I hadn’t made any gags about him, I was worried because I had mentioned him at the start.”
“I was delighted by that but I think he has misjudged me as a much more dangerous comic than I am.”
It was the fourth time the royal couple have been guests of honour at the event.
William looked dapper in a navy blue tuxedo as his wife Kate dazzled in a green sequin gown.
Alan Carr hosted the star-studded event and did risk a joke aimed at Prince William and Kate, which left fans divided.
The 45-year-old made the mischievous joke complimenting the Duchess on her stunning gown.
The comedian has been married to his husband Paul Drayton since 2018.
Alan was quick to tell Prince William: “Sir, I am sure you do not know who I am.
“But I am not hitting on your wife.”
The royal couple laughed away as they were poked fun at.
Body language expert and author Judi James told the Mirror she spotted some secret signs that the royal couple were loving their glitzy night out.

Judi said: “There is an undeniable twinkle in William’s eye here that suggests an air of anticipation and excitement that has often been lacking in royal body language at these events in the past.
“His hand-rubbing gesture as he walks towards the theatre is a signal of enthusiasm as though he can’t wait to get in there and see the show.”
