Princess Diana was like a 'wounded deer' after Bashir interview, says Jane Moore

Loose Women’s Jane Moore has said Princess Diana looked like a “wounded deer” the day after her interview with Martin Bashir aired in 1995.

The presenter and journalist was on a flight to Buenos Aires with the royal where she said it was apparent that Diana had some regrets.

“I could sense straight away that she regretted it,” she said, adding that she believed there had been fallout from the palace by that point.

“I think she didn’t anticipate the reaction that it would have.”

“She was a bit like a wounded deer when she got on the plane,” she said.

Jane said Diana boarded the plane looking like the princess the public was used to seeing before taking off her make-up, putting a tracksuit on and falling asleep with a blanket over her head.

She recalls Diana then getting dressed up again ready to get off the plane and thinking to herself: “God that is a tough life.”

“I saw first hand how tricky her life was.”

But she said Diana was not an “innocent simpleton” who had been manipulated and told what to say by Bashir for the infamous Panorama interview.

“She was very much in charge of her own destiny. She was bright, she knew what she was doing,” Jane said.

Jane, joined by fellow hosts Charlene White, Linda Robson and Stacey Solomon, was discussing whether the story has caused people to lose faith in journalism.

Stacey said she thinks there should be “tougher rules” and repercussions for journalists who lie or change the facts in a story.
