Rachel Riley will continue being 'naughty' on Countdown set despite co-star feud rumours

Rachel Riley said she will continue being “naughty” on the Countdown set despite claims of a rift with host Anne Robinson.

The numbers queen, 35, denied there was any “tension” between them and says Anne, 77, has softened on the show.

She told Saga Magazine:“It’s true that Anne Robinson’s arrival on the Countdown team has given the show a slightly different vibe.

“Admittedly, she doesn’t mind giving the contestants a bit of a bruising.

“But I think Anne has softened her ‘Queen of Mean’ image since she took over from Nick Hewer.

“Someone asked me if I’m going to stop being ‘naughty’ now that Anne’s in charge.

“Sorry, but this is me. What you see is what you get.”

Rachel is on maternity leave from the Channel 4 show after giving birth to her second daughter Noa.

She has been part of the programme since 2009 and has vowed to do another 13 years to beat Carol Vorderman’s record.

Carol, 61, was part of the long-running series for 26 years before leaving.

And Rachel is keen on beating her record, adding: “I’ll be back in the studio this month, but I have been watching every episode while on maternity leave.

“This will be my 13th year – and I’ve apparently been telling everyone that I want to beat Carol Vorderman’s record of 26 years.

“I don’t remember saying that – but why wouldn’t I want to beat it?

“Being on Countdown is the best job in the world, and I hope I’m there forever.”

Meanwhile, the telly star revealed Noa’s first gift was a Manchester United football shirt.

“Noa’s first present was a Manchester United shirt from Mum and Dad,” she added.

“We’ve received some wonderful letters, too.

“That’s what I love about Countdown fans: instead of tweeting, they actually take the time to sit down and write letters.”
