Radio legend Pat Sharp's top ten 80s hits from A-ha to Kenny Loggins classic

Pat Sharp has revealed to Daily Star Online his top ten hits of the 80s.

The DJ and host of Fun House and Top of the Pops is most synonymous with the 80s and 90s, his encyclopaedic knowledge of the music of those decades still revered.

He found his entry to the industry via BBC Radio 1, and began making appearances on Top of the Pops.

But by the late 80s, Pat had made the move over to Capital Radio, where he spent 10 years hosting his hugely popular show of which even Princess Diana was a fan.

He even dipped his toe into singing, teaming up with Mick Brown for a few charity singles that made it into the UK’s top 20 chart.

In first place, we have an 80s staple and a timeless hit.

“I’ve met the guys many times,” Pat told us, referring to A-ha’s line-up of Magne Furuholmen, Morten Harket and Paul Waaktaar-Savoy.

“I was the first person to play that iconic video [for Take On Me].”

Behind in second is Scottish crooner Owen Paul with My Favourite Waste of Time, which reached number three on the UK chart in 1986.

It was actually a cover, having first been sung by US artist Marshall Crenshaw.

Kenny Loggins’ Footloose – immortalised by the Kevin Bacon film of the same name – comes in at third, while rockers Van Halen and their track jump make the list at fourth.

The late Tom Petty makes the top five with Free Fallin’, a track Pat said many music fans would be surprised made his list.

Pet Shop Boys are as six with one of their most recognisable tracks, Suburbia, while at seven is Journey’s classic ballad and one of the most covered songs of all time, Don’t Stop Believin’.

Def Leppard come in at eight with Animal, while at ninth is Chicago with Hard To Say I’m Sorry.

Wrapping up the list is REO Speedwagon with Take It On The Run, the early eighties smash that marked the beginning of the Illinois band’s heyday.

Meanwhile, Pat touched on the possibility of a reboot of Fun House – with him tipping Mark Wright as a “brilliant choice” for presenter.

“He was a huge fan, along with his sister Jess,” Pat said.
