Pop star Robbie Williams says “Robbie” is actually a “superhero” alter-ego that comes alive on stage and he is really just an average dad called Robert in real life.
The Angels hitmaker believes there’s an entirely different persona inside of him which appears, at least most of the time, when he does big gigs.
And he said day-to-day, Robert Williams is just an everyday bloke who gets petrified if he’s tasked with entertaining people.
Rob, 47, said: “Weirdly, when I do gigs, Robbie Williams is like a construct, he’s like a superhero.
“My name is Robert Williams, it’s not Robbie Williams. Robbie Williams gets on stage, Robert Williams raises his kids.”

The former Take That hunk added to the Talent Takes Practice podcast: “I did Hyde Park and I get on stage and I never know if he’s going to turn up or if I’m going to do it myself.
“At Hyde Park for the first four songs in front of 70,000 people, Robbie didn’t turn up and I had to do it and it’s f***ing terrifying.

“Then, all of a sudden, he appears.
“I know that might sound to the outside world weird and schizophrenic and maybe it is, but a lot of the time I turn up and so does he, some of the time I turn up and he’s still in the dressing room having a fag.”
He said he’s been able to conquer incredibly crippling stage fright over the year which he suffers whichever persona is on stage.

“What I now know – which I didn’t and I couldn’t when I was younger – is that I’m bigger than the fear,” he said.
“The fear back then was so pervasive and so encompassing that I just fell into a bottomless pit of fear, worry, high anxiety and self-hatred.
“Now, I still am that person but what I do know with experience is that I’m incredibly courageous and I’m actually bigger than the fear.”
He said his stage act is stolen from The Rocky Horror Picture Show character Frankenfurter.
He said: “I saw Tim Curry in The Rocky Horror Show and went. ‘That’s f***ing ace, I want to be that.’
“I’m just being Frankenfurter when I get on stage, that’s all I’m being, I’m sort of mirroring people that adored growing up and they’ve amalgamated into the performer that I am.”
