Ryan Thomas says travel to see daughter 'puts strain' on relationship with Lucy

Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas has opened up about living across the country from his daughter.

Ryan – who recently announced his retirement from acting – is shacked up in Essex with fiancée Lucy Mecklenburgh and their newborn son, Roman.

He also has 11-year-old daughter Scarlett, who he shares with ex Tina O’Brien, who lives up in Manchester with her mum – which means a lot of travelling to see her.

Chatting to brothers Scott and Adam on the Mancs on the Mic podcast, Ryan shared: “I know I’ve got Scarlett [who] I have to keep going back and forward for… That puts a strain on our relationship because I’m not with her [Lucy] because I’ve gotta get back for Scarlett.

“There is that trying to find a mix of making both work and working out where you’re going to end.”

He added that he’d like to end up in Manchester eventually – but for the time being, he and Lucy need to stay close to London.

“I think eventually I’d like to be in Manchester with both my kids,” Ryan continued, “but at the moment it’s having that help at hand in London it’s just easier, but I think eventually I would love to be back where I started with all my brothers and all our kids.

“I think that’s what’ll happen eventually but we’re just taking it a day at a time. I think that’s what you’ve got to do with this family life.”

Ryan, Lucy and little Roman recently moved into a new property, the new mum sharing a glimpse inside their chic, understated new home.

“New house, new project, new memories to be made,” she captioned some snaps, “@ryanthomas84 bought our new Manchester home without me viewing it, he is a very brave man ahaha!

“I’ll be posting the full renovation process on @lucymeckinteriors.”

“New carpets and painting, But living in it like that before we decide on any big changes like extensions, loft conversions, new kitchen, knocking through walls etc.
