Sharon Stone told she wasn't 'f***able' enough for roles before Basic Instinct

Sharon Stone has revealed that she was told she wasn’t sexy enough to break into Hollywood – just weeks before she was cast in Basic Instinct.

The 1992 film cast Sharon as Catherine Tramell, who attempts to seduce Michael Douglas’ Nick Curran during a famous interrogation scene.

The film saw Sharon established as one of Hollywood’s sexiest talents – but only weeks before she had been told that she wasn’t sexy enough to make it as a star.

Writing in her autobiography, The Beauty of Living Twice, the 63-year-old recalls: “My manager at the time, had told me that no one would hire me because everyone said I wasn’t sexy.

“I wasn’t, as they liked to say in Hollywood at the time, ‘f**kable’.”

In the book’s excerpt, obtained by Vanity Fair, Sharon tells that she was “shy and introverted” and that her manager “badgered” her to embrace her sexuality if she wanted big roles.

“Six weeks later I was cast in Basic Instinct,” she adds.

In the film’s most famous scene, Sharon crosses and uncrosses her legs, revealing that she’s not wearing underwear.

Her character is trying to distract the cops who reckon she could be guilty of the violent murder of her rock-star partner.

Co-star Michael had agreed to give Sharon an audition after 12 actresses turned down the role.

“Hey, I was a nobody compared to him, and this was such a risky movie,” she writes.

Sharon and Michael have remained friends since their meeting in the early 90s.

“He taught me so much,” she writes, “He has been such a profoundly important human rights activist, and I admire him so much.

“He isn’t afraid to play the villain; he’ll say, ‘It’s the best part—you can do whatever you want’.”

Elsewhere in the memoir, Sharon claims a surgeon had given her larger breast implants “without her knowledge or consent” – because he believed they would “go better” with her body.

Sharon reprised the role of Catherine for Basic Instinct 2.
