Shaun Ryder 'started eating fruit and his hair grew back' amid Covid battle

Happy Mondays legend Shaun Ryder is suffering a string of unusual symptoms after contracting Covid-19, his bandmate Bez has revealed.

The British music icon, 56, appeared on BBC Radio Five live to talk about his new fitness platform before revealing Shaun, 58, was bed-bound with coronavirus.

Remaining upbeat about the situation, Bez said: “Do you know what, here’s news about Shaun, because he has not been the most well of people.

“He had Covid just recently and he is really ill with it.

“The only thing he could eat was fruit and his hair started growing back. So I can’t believe it.

“He went through weeks of hell.

“He was hallucinating in bed and he was really really ill.”

The kooky star added: “I don’t think he ever got proper nutrients through his body and he had had alopecia and his hair had fallen out.

“But then his hair started growing back. How unbelievable it that.”

Bez failed to add if Shaun is still testing positive for the virus, which has now killed over two million people around the world.

Bez went on to say he hopes Happy Monday’s can return to the stage in 2021 but isn’t holding his breath due to the ongoing pandemic.

He said: “Fingers crossed it goes ahead but I don’t hold out too much hope as every time we think we are going we get shut down.

“But it is looking goo and hopefully with the vaccination roll out things will get better.”

Talking about taking his own health, the former party animal explained he is now taking up yoga.

Bez said: “I am starting with the basics. I have got a personal trainer who puts me through my passes.

“We are doing yoga as well.

“I cant wait to start yoga – I’ve never done yoga before so that should be really funny.”

Bez says that during lockdown he was spending a staggering £100 a week on chocolate.

While he is aware the figure was far too high, Bez insisted he wasn’t snacking on Dairy Milk but instead popping to a local artisan chocolate house near his home.

He said: “Near me, we’ve got this shop and they make all this handmade chocolate.

“They are the best chocolates I have ever tasted in my life.

“They say I am their best customer when I walk in the shop.”
