As millions of us brace to embrace loved ones again, we found the perfect star to show us hugsactly how to get to grips with each other on May 17.
Veteran Hollywood actor Antonio Fargas is best known to fans round the world as Huggy Bear – his iconic character from the classic 70s telly cop show Starsky & Hutch.
Antonio loves the role so much, he’s been known to leave tourists and locals feeling hugstatic with cuddles, clinches, clasps and canoodles in New York’s Times Square.
Few can resist the charms of the flamboyantly dressed streetwise informant who became as popular as main stars David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser in the series.
Even at 74, he is still the world’s unofficial hugster-in-chief.
Today he sends out a hug-hard-but-stay-safe message to the whole country via his manager and friend John Castonia.
John told the Daily Star Sunday: “He loves Britain and is grateful to have so many fans there.
“It’s so sad that Covid has robbed so many people of that human touch that makes all the difference in life. So many people have been lonely that it’s not so much about how you hug as who you hug.
“Antonio wouldn’t want anyone to break their ‘bubbles’ or ignore local restrictions. But where it’s deemed OK to have that first hug in a long time, he’s happy people will be reconnecting at last.”
While hugging is permitted from next week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson also issued a message of warning to the public.
“This doesn’t mean that we can suddenly throw caution to the winds,” he said.
“We all know that close contacts such as hugging is a direct way of transmitting this disease.
“So I urge you to think about the vulnerability of your loved ones.”
