Strictly pro dancer Amy Dowden admits she still gets nervous ahead of live shows

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has admitted that she still gets nervous ahead of performing the show.

The professional dancer may have been appearing on the hit BBC dance competition for four years, but that doesn’t mean she has become complacent.

Amy, 31, confessed to still feeling nervous ahead of live performances on Strictly during a candid chat with her fans on Instagram.

The talented Welsh performer took to her social media account to chat with her followers while she is isolating after testing positive for Covid-19.

During the Q&A session one fan asked: “Do you get nervous before a Strictly Live Show?”

Amy responded: “Absolutely. I always say the day I’m not nervous, is the day I hang up my dance shoes.”

She also admitted that her celebrity partner doing well in the competition means everything to her, because of the amount of work that goes into being successful and dancing well on the show.

She continued: “I just think it shows you care and I want my partner to do so well because they work so hard. I want them to smash it. And yeah you can see my heart coming out my chest.”

Amy and her Strictly 2021 partner, McFly frontman Tom Fletcher, are both currently self-isolating after testing positive for Covid-19 following their live show debut on Saturday.

The pair will now miss this week’s show as they continue to isolate ahead of their return for live show Week Three.

A BBC spokesperson confirmed at the time: “Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden have tested positive for Covid-19. The pair are now self-isolating separately following the latest government guidelines.

“While they will both miss Saturday’s live show, Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, they will return the following week.”

Strictly It Takes Two host Rylan Clark-Neal also confirmed to viewers that Amy and Tom will be back for week three – as long as they’re both healthy enough.

Speaking to Strictly viewers, he announced: “Now, unfortunately, you may have heard that Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden have tested positive for Covid-19. The pair are self-isolating separately, and they are also following the latest government guidelines.

“While they both, unfortunately, will miss Saturday’s live show, Strictly Come Dancing protocols will mean all being well, they will return the following week, guys. So fingers crossed for that, and we’re sending you both all of our love.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7.30 on BBC One.
