Strictly's Craig Revel Horwood says 'housewives' are keeping Dan Walker on show

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has claimed housewives across the UK are responsible for “loved” Dan Walker being voted through despite his poor performances.

The 56-year-old made the comments after the BBC Breakfast host made it to the quarter final with his partner Nadiya Bychkova despite his mediocre performances in the series having sparked a backlash from some viewers.

Speaking in an interview on FUBAR Radio, judge Craig suggested that the 44-year-old has a particular demographic of fans, and claimed he is “loved by every housewife”.

He said: “I know that Dan is loved by every housewife in the UK. He has the full support of them which is fantastic and that’s why the audience get 50% of the vote.”

BBC bosses recently faced fix allegations after the TV presenter survived another week on the flagship show after yet another poor performance.

Dan, the bookies’ favourite for the chop, swerved the dance-off despite criticism from judge Craig.

One viewer tweeted: “How is Dan Walker still in this competition?”

A second wrote: “Is Dan Walker the biggest ever fix on Strictly? He should not be there anymore.”

Ballroom dancer Craig, who has been on the judging panel since 2004, added that he expects the final to be different to previous years when it comes to voting.

Craig commented: “I’m really looking forward to seeing who the audience chooses to put through because I think it won’t be down to the judges this year.”

He continued: “The judges are very equal now and there’s no one standing out that’s really terrible. It’s gonna be a really fine line I think to see who actually gets to the winning line.”

Walker recently revealed an online troll threatened to sue him for bad dancing as he shared the abusive messages he has received for making it to the quarter finals.

Dan and his partner are still yet to have been in the dance-off as they made it through another week of the BBC dance competition, while Tilly Ramsay became the latest celebrity to be sent home by the judges.

Walker tried to laugh off the online abuse he had received as he shared it on Twitter.

He said: “Thank you to everyone who is sending lovely messages & enjoying us having fun on #Strictly and to the few who say… ‘Just leave’ ‘Aren’t you ashamed?’ ‘You’re a disgrace’ ‘It’s a fix’ (which I don’t get) or ‘Who is voting for them?’ IT’S A TV SHOW! See you in the 1/4 finals.”
