Strictly Come Dancing judge Cynthia Erivo is the gift that keeps on giving.
Not only has the stand-in panel member taken the time to learn sign language but now she’s single handedly battling online trolls with hilarious comebacks.
The 34-year-old seemed to divide Twitter users as she appeared on the BBC programme for the second time in a row after the judges were struck with a number of Covid-19 related issues.
One nasty troll demanded in the comments section of the digital platform that the TV star should “never” appear on the panel again.
Cynthia had however received an overwhelming amount of support from other viewers who praised her approach and self-taught sign language with contestant Rose Ayling-Elis.
One person penned: “Love love love you on Strictly, thank you for giving some excellent critiques.”
Beneath this, another disgruntled fan clearly felt differently, adding: “Please never judge on Strictly again.
“Ruined two weeks in a row with your horrendous scoring.”
Clapping back with a witty remark, Cynthia wrote: “@BBC STRICTLY SPLITTING OPINIONS!!!”
However, other fans begged for the Broadway musical star to replace lead judge Shirley Ballas on the panel after she’d told Rose Ayling-Ellis “that was fierce” in sign language.
One fan wrote: “Cynthia really puts the other judges to shame with how she’s learnt little bits of sign language for Rose. We’re on week 10 and everyone else has done the bare minimum to communicate with her.”
Another added: “I also love that for the second week in a row, Cynthia learned how to sign her opening comment to Rose. Be nice if the regular judges did it a bit more.”
While a third chimed: “Oh my god I love Cynthia Erivo so much, please can she be in charge.”
Last weekend, Cynthia made her debut on the BBC programme as a guest judge – filling in for Craig Revel Horwood after he’d tested positive for Covid-19.
This week, she was asked to return to the panel once again after judge Moti Mabuse had been forced to pull out after she’d been contacted by the NHS Test and Trace app for coming into contact with someone who’d tested positive.
Cynthia shot to fame after appearing in Broadway hit The Color Purple between 2015 and 2017.
She is also well known for her role in the 2019 biopic Harriet in which she played a former slave and activist Harriet Tubman.
