Former Strictly Come Dancing star Jacqui Smith has been left filled with rage following anti-vaccine protests across the country.
Jacqui, 58, appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss the changes to coronavirus restrictions that will see health care workers be required to have the vaccine unless they are medically exempt.
It comes as the government are reportedly planning to scrap the traffic light system and have just red and green list countries in the coming weeks.
The political commentator who served as Home Secretary between 2007 and 2009 admitted that she was outraged by anti-vaxx protests.
It was announced that due to the relaxing travel restrictions, those who are doubled jabbed will no longer be required to fork out for expensive PCR tests when travelling back into England.
The former MP said: “I do feel really in a contrary about this because I think sometimes if you really try and push people from the centre, it makes it more difficult to persuade them.
“We’ve also got to be really tough on the lies that are going about and the increasing number of demonstrations and really quite nasty and aggressive demonstrations that people who are trying to deliver the vaccines are facing.”
Jacqui continued: “You know, in Birmingham, we sent vans out into communities and they get picketed, the nurses get abused and that is utterly outrageous and the police have to take that seriously and we have to say ‘it’s not on for you to treat health workers who are delivering the vaccine in that way!'”
Last month, shoppers in Birmingham were left stunned when a large group of anti-vaccine protestors stormed into the city centre’s Primark store.
BirminghamLive reports that up to 50 people charged through the flagship store before going up the escalators chanting and waving placards around.
The store that is the largest in England had been used as a temporary vaccination clinic for three days from August 13 through till the 16th.
A spokesperson for the high street store said: “We can confirm we are aware of a planned protest that took place in Birmingham and diverted through our store.
“Though there was some disruption, from our part it lasted five minutes and then the group left the store.”
West Midlands Police force confirmed that no arrests were made but the protest was monitored by police officers.
