Nicola Adams’ girlfriend Ella Baig has admitted that she found it hard to cope when her partner was competing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2020.
Ella, 22, suffered panic attacks and said she had “dark thoughts” as Nicola, 38, focused on her training with professional partner Katya Jones.
The beauty blogger made the difficult decision to return to Leeds and live with her mum just days after Strictly filming started.
She and Nicola were apart for two months and Ella has now opened up about the toll the BBC show took on her and their relationship.
Ella explained: “Nicki would be training all day then come home, chill and sleep.

“I would try to keep busy in the house, tidying up, cleaning and trying to shoot content. But mostly I was just watching TV.
“I started feeling really down and having panic attacks, where my heart was racing and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I had dark thoughts.”
She added to The Sun: “I was in a bubble with Nicki and Katya I wasn’t allowed to go out and see anyone.”

Unfortunately, Nicola had to quit the show after Katya, 31, tested positive for coronavirus.
Ella, who has been in a relationship with Nicola for two years, added: “We were apart for two months and it was a hard decision not to see Nicki for that long but you have to put your health first.
“It was one of the worst periods of my life,” the blonde added.

However, Ella insists that she and Nicola did not break up during filming and said the dreaded Strictly curse “didn’t affect us at all”.
In fact, Ella said their relationship has been great since Nicola left Strictly.
The loved-up couple even saw off 2020 in style after jetting of to the Maldives at New Year to start 2021 off with a bang.
