Tom Fletcher is starring on this season’s Strictly Come Dancing, but did you know he has a secret soap past?
Daily Star takes a look inside his soap cameo past over the years, with Casualty and Hollyoaks both popping up on his roster.
But he didn’t jump into the deep end of the British soap world on his own, he did so with his famous McFly bandmates Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd.
In January 2005, the band guest-starred in an episode of the long-running British drama series Casualty.
In the episode, two McFly fans use a skyscraper’s window cleaning cradle to attempt to photograph their idols – but due to the nature of the show, it goes wrong.
Over four years later on May 8, 2009, the pop boy band then appeared in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks on where the group performed in the SU Bar with The Somethings as a support group.
The surprise soap career may come as a shock to some fans, but what also surprised Tom this week was finding out that he could no longer perform on Strictly this week due to contracting Covid.
This also means that he can’t finish the final legs of their upcoming McFly tour, titled the Young Dumb Thrills tour, with his fellow bandmates.
The singer will now have to undergo a period of self-isolation before being able to return his Strictly duties – and the pair won’t be able to rehearse for ten days.
Taking to Instagram, the star gave fans an update into how his isolation was going, and he told fans he was “gutted” to be missing out on his band’s tour.
He said: “Thank you so much for all your messages. I’m fine, but it means obviously I’m isolating and can’t finish the McFly tour.
“I’m so sorry, I’m so gutted about [it]. It hurts so much letting you guys down, you have no idea.”
He explained that Tom Abisgold will step in to replace him in the upcoming McFly shows, and that he has been a McFly fan for years.
He went on to chat about how he’ll be missing out on the next week of Strictly, and apologised for having to drop out for the time being.
