Susanna Reid shuts down 'sickened' Piers Morgan's Meghan and Harry rant on GMB

Susanna Reid interrupted Piers Morgan during Monday’s Good Morning Britain, shutting down his use of language on the show.

The GMB presenters opened the show with a discussion about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s recent Oprah Winfrey interview, which aired in the US on Sunday night.

Piers launched into an angry tirade against the Royal couple, declaring he was “sickened” by what he’d heard during the interview.

The GMB star then referred to a moment in the interview when Meghan claimed a member of the Royal family expressed concerns about the colour of their son Archie’s skin.

Meghan told Oprah: “All around this same time, we have in tandem the conversation of he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title and also concerns and conversations as how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

Harry confirmed such a conversation had taken place, adding: “That conversation I’m never going to share but at the time it was awkward, I was a bit shocked.”

However, Piers accused the couple of trying to make the Royal family out as “white supremacists” during his GMB rant.

He said: “They trash everybody. They basically make out the entire Royal family are a bunch of white supremacists by dropping this race bombshell.”

Susanna was quick to shut him down, saying: “Don’t use that phrase.”

Meghan’s two-hour interview with Oprah will air on ITV on Monday evening

Later in the interview, Susanna defended Meghan and Harry, pointing out the interview had highlighted the Duchess’ struggle with her mental health.

During the conversation with Oprah, at one point Meghan revealed she had battled suicidal thoughts during her time as a Royal.

In the interview, which will air on ITV on Monday evening, Oprah asked: “You were having suicidal thoughts?”

“Yes. It was very clear and very scary,” Meghan replied. “I just didn’t see a solution.”

Susanna spoke compassionately about the revelation, pointing out it was important to have sympathy for her experience.

Countering Piers, she said: “Anyone who says they were left feeling suicidal and didn’t want to be alive anymore, you have to feel sympathy for them.”
