Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid seemed to be channelling her former on-screen partner Piers Morgan as she took aim at Meghan Markle on the programme.
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, had headed out for a surprise interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show after her explosive tell-all with Oprah Winfrey.
The full interview releases later today, though a promotional clip has already aired.
Keen to discuss the interview with her co-host Ben Shephard, Susanna began the discussion by saying: “Now, let’s turn our attention to another chat show and that is the Ellen Show… and Meghan has made an appearance.
“Now, the last time we saw…” Susanna trailed off as she cleared her throat, continuing: “So slightly discombobulated… the last time we saw Meghan on a chat show she was doing the big reveal on Oprah.”
Ben couldn’t help but chime in: “That was quite a quiet affair, wasn’t it? The fall out from that one?”
Susanna said of the Oprah interview: “Goodness me, she put a rocket under practically everything frankly, from the royal family to this programme” – referencing Piers’ explosive exit from the morning show.
He famously stormed off set after an on-air row with weatherman Alex Beresford over Meghan’s assertions and quit the ITV programme later that day.
Susanna explained of the promo clip: “You would imagine that they would put out a clip perhaps about Harry, or perhaps her feelings about the royal family, or perhaps about everything that has happened in the wake of that…
“But no, we go right back to her humble, hard-working roots… let’s have a look!”
During Meghan’s chat, she spoke about the old Ford Explorer she used to drive, which had a key that would stop working – meaning she had to enter the car by climbing through the boot.
Meghan explained: “It had a life of its own. So I had this very, very old Ford Explorer Sport, and at a certain point the key stopped working on the driver’s side. So you couldn’t get yourself in through the door.
“So I would park at the back of the parking lot and I would open the trunk and climb in and pull it shut behind me, and crawl over all my seats to get out! That’s how I would come to and fro.”
Meghan also joked about how, during her acting career, the security guards at film sets would tell her to “break a leg” when she turned up to auditions.
She told Ellen: “The drive in today was very different!”
But Susanna couldn’t resist a sarcastic quip, as she said of Meghan: “There we go. Let’s never mind the private jets…”
Meanwhile, a royal expert on the Today Show Australia said the Royal Family will be “hiding behind their sofas” in wait of the full interview, after Meghan dropped bombshell claims over racism and mental health in her interview with Oprah.
Good Morning Britain airs from 6am weekdays on ITV.
