The Chase's Anne Hegerty prefers to spend Christmas alone and 'can't wait' for day off

With the festive season fast approaching, The Chase star Anne Hegerty has said her dream Christmas Day is spent alone watching telly and eating mince pies.

Known as The Governess on the hit ITV quiz show, the 63-year-old has opened up about her Christmas traditions as she get ready to perform in a pantomime.

Anne has spoken out in the past about her decision to stay single and loving the solo life, but she joined the Loose Women ladies on Friday to talk about her festive plans that many might find surprising.

She explained: “For quite a long time, I’ve actually preferred to spend Christmas on my own, which sounds awful and terribly lonely, but it’s my choice.

“There’s a zillion places I could for Christmas day, and to be honest, I just like having a day off, and not having to deal with people.

“A day to sit around, eat mince pies, chocolate, watch the telly, and it’s great. I love it.”

It sounds like a thoroughly pleasant way to spend Christmas day.

The genius quiz player will be playing the wife of a giant in a production of Jack and the Beanstalk at the Beck Theatre in Hayes this Christmas.

Anne confessed she would love to do more acting in future.

She said: “I like having the chance to do a bit of acting, I like having the chance to have an audience. It’s live theatre, which one doesn’t have the chance to do, and it isn’t The Chase.”

Anne opened up earlier this year about enjoying life single.

She admitted: “I still get attracted to people, but there’s no point in pursuing it.”

She continued: “Quite apart from the fact that I’m probably not his type… I’m going to leave him very baffled and wondering what he’s done wrong. I love being isolated.

“It’s brilliant. I really don’t feel I’m missing out on relationships. I’m doing fine.”

Friends who come to Anne for love advice are given a blunt reply: “Just be on your own!”

She seems to be doing just fine by herself, and not having to share the selection box of chocolates sounds like a winner.
