The new HBO animated series The Prince is centred on Prince George, who is portrayed as an entitled and conniving influencer who enjoys spreading royal gossip.
The satire has attracted criticism as it mocks the eight-year-old future king.
Gary Janetti, one of the creators of Family Guy, released the 12-part series on July 29 in the US to mixed reactions from critics and royal fans. Janetti’s Instagram account has 91,000 followers and sees him regularly posts memes on the royals.
He has insisted that “everything was meant with affection”.
Reacting to the new series, Molly Mulshine told Royally Us: “I believe that it’s really funny, I have such mixed feelings on it as a whole.
“I do stand-up comedy so I am all for making jokes about everything under the sun, nothing is sacred whatsoever.
“At the same time, when I would follow his Instagram account, some of the jokes were really mean and involving little kids, so I was just really surprised that this is getting a mainstream stamp of approval from HBO because it feels a little edgy sometimes.”
Her co-host Joe Drake added: ” It’s interesting that they went there because Prince George is a minor.”
The Prince also pokes fun at other royals, with Prince Charles frequently referring to Camilla as a horse and the Duchess of Cambridge despising her husband Prince William.
The Queen is often shown swearing and carrying around a pistol, whilst Prince George’s butler, voiced by Alan Cumming, hates his boss.
The show has also come under fire for its portrayal of a decrepit Prince Philip.
In one episode, Prince William is seen forcing his mouth open to pour in some tea, whilst the late Duke of Edinburgh remains motionless.
Originally due to be aired in late spring, HBO announced that they would be postponing its release out of respect for Prince Philip.
While Prince Harry is mocked for being an airhead who is unable to do his own shopping, Meghan Markle remains the only character not to be parodied.
The Prince attracted a number of major Hollywood A-listers to appear in the series, including Orlando Bloom, Sophie Turner and Dan Stevens.
Orlando Bloom defended the series, calling “genius” but also adding that he would be mentioning his role to Prince Harry, who is his neighbour in California.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m going to have to mention it to Prince Harry when I next see him, because I’m not going to be able to not.”
The Prince currently has no UK broadcaster. There has been no comment from any member of the Royal Family.
