This Morning fans baffled after spotting Dermot O'Leary's 'tense habit' on show

This Morning host Dermot O’Leary is a major hit with viewers, thanks to his warmth and charm on the air – but one of his habits niggled certain fans of the show this week.

Dermot, 47, returned to the ITV studios during Friday’s show, joining host Alison Hammond for yet another glittering instalment of interviews and entertainment.

Watching the show on Friday morning, certain viewers noticed Dermot had a tendency towards fold his arms while on-air, crossing both limbs across his front.

Taking to Twitter, Dermot’s body language left some fans concerned that Dermot wasn’t feeling comfortable in the studio, fearing he looked a little tense with his folded arms.

One said: “Unfold your arms dermot and relax!”

“Why does Dermot keep folding his arms? Are they super-glued,” wondered a second.

And a third griped: “Sitting with your arms folded is just rude and defensive.”

Dermot and Alison have taken over from previous Friday hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes on the show, bringing each week to a close.

Having risen to fame on morning television, Dermot was previously best known as the charismatic host of The X Factor, welcoming acts like Olly Murs and Little Mix to the stage over the years.

The TV personality, who became a dad for the first time last year, paid tribute to former hosts Eamonn and Ruth before his 2021 debut on This Morning.

Speaking out last November, he said: “I’m deeply thrilled and honoured to be joining the This Morning team next year. We have huge shoes to fill and we are well aware what a privilege it is to be stepping into them.

“Above all, we want to have fun and for you to be able to kick your weekend off with a smile, especially given the year we’ve all had. So I’m delighted to be co-hosting with the living embodiment of sunshine on a rainy day. I can’t wait to get started.”

Eamonn and Ruth also wished the new hosts the best of luck with their new role, assuring fans they would continue to present the show during half-term and summer holidays.

In a shared statement, the married couple wrote: “It’s a changing of the guard on Fridays from January. We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you’ve made us over the years.

“Have a Ball you two ! It’s not Goodbye from us, it’s simply Au Revoir until the next half term.”

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
