Para-athlete and influencer Milly Pickles was approached to go on Love Island, she revealed in a TikTok video, but she decided to turn down the show.
When she released the video she praised producers for their plans to be more diverse.
Milly was flooded with questions after she confessed that she was asked to go on the show, particularly of people asking her why she turned it down.
In her latest video, she told her 309,000 TikTok followers that there are “so many reasons” that she decided against it.
She said: “Firstly, I didn’t want to be known as Milly with the fake leg from Love Island.
“As much as I would have loved to help Love Island be more diverse, it doesn’t align with who I am and let’s be honest, it’s about getting fame and money and that’s not what I’m after.”
Milly continued: “I also have goals I want to achieve and Love Island would have completely taken me away from that. I would rather achieve my goals and earn my success and credibility rather than going on TV and getting it like that.
“I’d get more satisfaction out of doing something that I have achieved and being proud of myself for achieving it than just getting a quick win.”
She explained that she had “no shade” to people who do that, but it wasn’t something she wanted to do.
In the comment section of the video, she explained that she did think about it, and turning it down was a big decision to make.
Although Milly turned down the show, Love Island still continued in their plans to be more diverse.
A source told The Sun that the casting team were actively looking for someone who has a disability.
They said: “It’s all part of the show trying to be as diverse as possible.”
The casting team did add a disabled islander to the line up this year, with hunky PE teacher Hugo Hammond joining the 2021 series.
Prior to coming in to the villa, he said: “I was born with clubfoot. I had lots of operations when I was a kid. You can only really tell when I walk barefoot, I’ve got a really short Achilles heel.”
LoveIslandstarts at 9pm Monday 28th June on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
