Tipping Point fans have ridiculed one contestant’s geography knowledge after she made a giant gaffe about the River Thames.
Friday’s episode of the ITV quiz show welcomed economics student Carly from Liverpool alongside three other contestants, who all came to play with the hopes of winning cash.
The last two players standing were Carly and David, with Carly asked by show host Ben Shephard: “The town of Gateshead sits on the south bank of which English river?”
Gateshead is of course a town in the North East of England, leaving Tipping Point viewers stunned by Carly’s lack of knowledge about the geography of the UK.
Following the question being asked, Carly admitted herself: “I’m not very good at geography.”
Ben responded: “Do you know where it is? Does it ring any bells?”
Carly replied: “I’ve heard of it. I mean, I could guess.”
She added: “I’m just going to guess. I’m going to go for the River Thames.”
With Ben revealing the answer was actually the River Tyne.
Tipping Point viewers took to Twitter to share their bewilderment at Carly’s answer.
One commented: “OMG no Gateshead does not sit on the South Bank of the Thames.”
Another wrote: “Humber? Thames? Wtf.”
A third stunned viewer responded: “FFS!!! Gateshead sits on the south bank of both the Thames and the Humber according to these clowns. Just get out of my sight.”

A fourth said: “South of the Thames, where you’ll see the Angel of the North.”
Meanwhile, one disgruntled fan concluded: “The river Thames is in Gateshead now?!”
Eventually, Carly was eliminated from the competition, leaving David alone to go for the money.
He walked away with £2100.
Tipping Point airs weekdays at 4pm on ITV
