Tipping Point fans have dubbed a player in today’s show (August 27) a “plonker” after he made a big error over Madrid’s location.
Friday’s episode of the ITV quiz series saw host Ben Shephard, 46, welcome contestants Mark, Hollie, Adam and Denise to the game.
While getting off to a knowledgeable start, the group’s intelligence was tested when Bath plumber Adam made a grave blunder while answering a relatively simple question about an Italian capital city.
Ben asked: “Which Italian capital city is said to have been built on seven hills?”
When eventually prompted by Ben to answer after several moments of hesitation, Adam guessed: “Madrid.”
However, Ben soon informed Adam that the answer was in fact “Rome” as Madrid is a well-known Spanish city.
Alongside Ben and Adam’s fellow players, Tipping Point viewers were left cringing at Adam’s big slip up.
One viewer commented: “Rome muppet.”
Another wrote: “Rome FFS!”
A third sarcastic viewer replied: “Madrid’s moved to Italy now?!”
A fourth said: “Again how many capitals does Italy have?”
Another added: “I bet Adam feels like a right plonker!”
Meanwhile, a sixth sarcastic fan concluded: “Capital of Italy – Madrid.”
Adam’s howler of an answer and a further run of bad luck eventually cost him his place in the game, as he became the first player to be eliminated.
He was followed by Hollie and Denise until Mark became the last remaining player.
He walked away with £3,600 by the end of the episode, which he plans to spend on a wellness spa break.
Adam’s Madrid error follows a player on Thursday’s episode making a surprising ‘sensory organ’ guess.
On Wednesday, another contestant was slammed by fans for giving a ‘c**p’ answer to a simple catchphrase question.
Tipping Point airs at 4pm on weekdays on ITV
