TV host Bradley Walsh's health battle that causes eye redness and swelling

The Chase host Bradley Walsh has revealed that he suffers “seriously bad” from a disorder called blepharitis that causes eye swelling and redness.

The 61-year-old presenter is widely adored by fans of the show, but he expressed that they aren’t aware of the condition that he struggles with.

Due to the side effects of the medical condition, viewers of the trivia show don’t often don’t understand why his face can look puffy on air.

In an interview on This Morning, he said: “People don’t realise I have seriously bad blepharitis.

“I have to take one pill a day for it or I really struggle. I am going to need my eyes operated on at some point to sort it out.

“So many times, people have commented on how I look. But they don’t realise. If I take medication though, I’m fine.”

Prior to this, Bradley previously opened up about his condition on This Morning in 2017 with hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes.

He told the couple that blepharitis causes red, swollen, itchy eyelids and flakes or crusts at the base of the eyelashes.

In extreme cases, sufferers of the condition can worryingly wake up with their eyelids completely stuck together.

While blepharitis isn’t life-threatening, it can often lead to dry eyes, cysts and conjunctivitis.

Though it can normally be treated by washing your eyelids every day.

Bradley has also suffered from another health scare that led to him losing 10lbs.

Shortly after the star’s 60th birthday, Bradley shared the news that doctors had given him a serious warning and urged him to lose weight.

The former soap star told The Sun: “I was a time bomb. I was quite lucky in regards to the calcium test but my doctor said I produce too much cholesterol. It’s a silent killer.”

The presenter has also battled with another health scare which urged him to lose 10lb

“I thought, ‘Oh crikey, I’m gonna be bang in trouble here if I don’t lose the weight and start dealing with this’.”

Following professional advice, Bradley, who weighed 14st 9lbs, lost just under one stone to help improve his health.
