Vinnie Jones' biggest fallouts on and off the pitch as football icon turns 56

Vinnie Jones cemented himself as a national treasure after becoming one of the best loved footballers of the 1980s before making the jump into acting.

Since making his film debut in Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998, Vinnie has gone on to bag himself countless TV and movie roles.

In 2019, the star even showed off his singing skills when he took part in Simon Cowell’s Celebrity X Factor, though sadly failed to win the competition.

Alongside his illustrious career, Vinnie has made a name for himself after proving he is not afraid of a clash – both on and off the pitch.

Here we run down his most infamous rows as he celebrates his 56th birthday.

Tamer Hassan

Vinnie clashed with fellow actor, and father of Love Island babe Belle Hassan, Tamer Hassan in the spring of 2010.

The duo were said to have emerged ‘battered and bruised’ after a bloody brawl.

Vinnie was photographed with a large bruise to his cheek in April 2010 as he went to watch the Hollywood All-Stars football team play in Santa Monica.

The fight is said to have come out of nowhere while after Vinnie saw Tamer having a meeting with production crew in the infamous Chateau Marmont hotel.

A witness told Mail Online: “It certainly wasn’t handbags at dawn. They are both big strong boys.

“But Vinnie was in a pretty bad way afterwards. He took a beating to the face and he looked like he needed stitches. There was blood everywhere.”

The duo had seemed to build bridges when Vinnie was set to play in a charity football match for the NHS last Autumn.

However, he pulled out of the event sparking a war of words online.

Speaking on Instagram, Tamar hit out: “I just want to respond to Vinnie Jones’ message this morning about us holding a charity football match around these time and saying that we are irresponsible for doing this.

“And what he is saying is actually the opposite and I want to explain this as well to you Vinnie.”

He added: “We are holding a charity football to raise money not only for NHS, cause you did say the NHS are going to go ape s**t about us holding this game

“But we are raising money for the NHS through my charity Mask Our Heroes and frontline works and all proceeds go to the charity.

“Secondly we have an initiative, call it an experiment if you want, where we have a blueprint that will enable fans to go back into the stadium in a Covid free environment.”

Danny Dyer

Outspoken EastEnders actor Danny Dyer wasted no time mocking Vinnie after Vinnie and Tamer’s initial clash in 2010.

Danny was keen to defend Tamer after they worked together of cult film The Business.

Dani Dyer’s dad wrote in his Zoo magazine column at the time: “I cracked up when I saw that stuff in the papers about Tamer Hassan getting into a scrap with Vinnie Jones. Tamer’s in L.A. and I’ve been in Norway, so I haven’t talked to him about it yet, but I can’t wait to hear all the details.

“It’s a case of a few beers too many, and all that alpha male b**locks. I know they had a bit of a falling out on New Year’s Eve, when Tamer gave Vinnie a slap.

“They made a film together in Hungary last year, but I wouldn’t say they’re best mates.

“I’m in Tamer’s camp all day long. He’d eat Vinnie alive if it came to it, the two-bob c**t. He’s really clutching at straws. The mug finished behind Dane Bowers in Celebrity Big Brother, and now he thinks people give a f**k about him.

“Thank God Tamer gave him a slap – he was clearly due one!”

Paul Gascoigne

On February 6, 1988 Vinnie and Gaza met on the pitch in an now infamous Wimbledon v Newcastle game.

In one of the most iconic British footballing snaps, Vinnie can be seen angrily grabbing Paul’s manhood in a very public row.

Recalling how things kicked off, Vinnie told talkSPORT: “I got to the game everything is fine, was having the craic with the lads, and it is all going off out on the pitch.

“Gazza has gone out there early and there was a frenzy. I used to go out late, I didn’t want a great big warm up.

“Our guys went out and are going ‘there are girls running on with bouquets of flowers and roses and chocolates’ and something snapped in me.

“I thought: ‘I could be the laughing stock of this game. What if he scores four goals, what if he runs riot?’

“Something snapped in me. So I never went out. I stretched in the dressing room and I am building up and building up and I thought ‘when I see him, I’m going to kill him’.”

Steve MacMahon

Vinnie recalled taking out rival Steve MacMahon during an FA Cup Final, but admitted that the footballer gave as good as he got.

He said: “I did Steve McMahon early in the game. Whack. He landed on me with his elbow and cut my face. I rather admired him for that.”

He added: “People hated playing us, and who could blame them? This wasn’t just a football team, it was an attack on the senses. It was the Crazy Gang.”

This was the nickname to describe the Wimbledon FC team in the 80s and 90s, after a number of players became infamous for their fiery tempers.

Other members included Dennis Wise and Fashanu, and fellow member Nigel Winterburn discussed what they used to do at their peak of chaos.

He said: “I had my shoes nailed to the floor and Ralgex in my pants straight away. The manager, Dave Bassett, might not have liked it, but he didn’t have a say. We’d travel and it was Dave’s bed that more often than not would end up outside his room or, on one occasion, in the swimming pool.”

Vinnie added: “If you couldn’t handle the stripping and the pranks and the abuse, you were f***ing out. Simple as that.”
