Walk the Line's Dawn French brands Maya Jama 'rude' for saying she's 'not a singer'

Walk the Line has just launched on ITV and fans have a favourite aspect of the brand new talent show already – Dawn French.

The famous actress and comedian has won over the public already, though some were questioning why she was seated on the panel as she hasn’t had a career in music.

Maya Jama, the host of Simon Cowell’s brand new show, told Dawn, who joins judges Gary Barlow, Craig David and Alesha Dixon, that she wasn’t technically a singer.

She said: “Dawn French the icon! Now you are the only one on the panel who’s not technically a singer.”

Dawn immediately responded: “That’s rude! Excuse me Maya, may I correct you a moment? I’ve had a very illustrious career in singing, roll VT!”

The VT showed Dawn in multiple singing skits, much to the audience’s enjoyment.

Maya added: “I mean I take back everything I said. That proves your place on the panel perfectly.”

Dawn joined three artists with an incredibly successful in the music industry – but Dawn certainly brings an edge to the judging panel which many talent shows haven’t witnessed in the past.

Her humour has already had fans in hysterics, and viewers are certainly happy to see the favourite star on TV, and they took to Twitter immediately to share their joy about having her on their screens.

Taking to Twitter, many were still wondering why she was on the panel, as one user wrote: “I love Dawn French but why have her as a judge on a singing show when she herself noted that she ‘doesn’t know the technicalities of singing’?”

Another wrote: “Dawn is there to soften the blow from judges.”

A third said: “Love Dawn French, very funny lady, but why is she a judge on a singing competition?”

Dawn and her fellow judges will all be giving hopefuls feedback as they fight to win £500,000 or take home £10,000.

The hopefuls will go up against one another in the public vote at the end of each show and the winner of the night could either win £10,000 or bet on themselves and walk the line with the possibility of landing £500,000.

Only one hopeful can take home the top prize, but who will it be?

Walk the Line will air every night this week at 8pm on ITV.
