Forensic drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation captivated audiences worldwide when it first launched in the year 2000 – and to celebrate 21 years since its debut, Daily Star has looked at some of the most unexpected cameos.
Running for an incredible 15 years, the drama gave viewers an insight into a team of crime-scene investigators, employed by the Las Vegas Police Department, to solve the innumerable murders that was often taken place in the city.
The franchise certainly became an institution of television, with producers developing popular spin-off shows such as CSI: Miami and New York, until the flagship drama and its spinoffs came to their respective ends in 2015.
Originally led by character Gil Grissom, who was played by actor William Peterson, the programme had approximately 797 episodes which is approximately 25 days worth of CSI back to back.
But throughout the show’s history, weirdly enough, several celebrities have also made unexpected appearances on the programme.
And for some of them, CSI was their first acting debut, but who hit the screens over the years?
Kim Kardashian
In 2009, reality star Kim Kardashian made her acting debut playing a femme fatale in CSI: New York.
The brunette bombshell played the role of Debbie Fallon who was the fiancé of a musician accused of murder. But to Debbie’s surprise suspicion eventually turned onto her.
Kim, who was only 28 at the time, appeared alongside fellow guest star MTV host Vanessa Minnillo.
Speaking about her acting role further, Kim said at the time: “Everyone here is so genuinely nice.
“But I was really surprised that CSI: NY films in L.A. I was so excited to go to New York for a little vacay.”
The mother-of-four received fairly mixed reviews for her performance on the investigation drama ranging from “wretched” to “not bad”.
Justin Bieber
Singer Justin Bieber also played his part in 2010’s season 11 premiere of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
The young musician, who already had a legion of fans at the time decided to take a break from music to flex his acting skills.
Justin played the role of Jason McCann, a dangerous a serial killer and a serial bomber, who was certainly far removed from the squeaky-clean image the teen bopper had at the time.
The Canadian singer appeared in two nail-biting episodes, and was killed in a hail of bullets.
But before he made his dramatic exit, Justin’s character killed five different people and attempted to slay ten (or more).
Taylor Swift
Another singer who decided to give acting a go was pop and country music sensation Taylor Swift.
In 2009, CBS and the producers of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation wanted to capitalize on Taylor’s growing popularity by having her appearing on the hit programme.
The Blank Space singer played a murder victim named Haley Jones, who was portrayed throughout her episode in flashbacks.
In addition to this, Taylor also had to play a corpse in her acting debut.
Speaking about her role at the time, the award-winning singer said: “I’ve always joked around with my record label and my mom and everybody — all my friends know that my dream is to die on CSI.
“I’ve always wanted to be one of the characters on there that they’re trying to figure out what happened to.”
Michael B Jordan
Before heartthrob Michael B Jordan became known for his roles in Black Panther and Creed he appeared on popular television series such as The Wire and of course CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
Michael played the role of Morris Calvin, who was a member of a rap crew and a street gangster who ended up taking his fandom a little too far.
As a result, three people were murdered in a drive-by shooting, leaving the investigation team to figure out what took place and who the killer was.
Michael appeared in season six of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in 2006.
P. Diddy
Another musician who surprisingly took part in the iconic programme was rap mogul P. Diddy.
P. Diddy aka Sean Combs appeared in season 7, episodes 15 Presumed Guilty and episode 16: Sink or Swim of CSI: Miami.
The father-of-six played defence attorney, Derek Powell in the hit series.
In his first episode, Mr. Combs is seen defending a man accused of murder, but as the episode begins to unfold, it turns out he might actually be covering for the real murderer.
In the final episode, viewers witness Powell’s private yacht attacked during a party, and his partner being dramatically killed as a result.
But despite the fact that this was not P .Diddy’s first acting role, fans of CSI: Miami were not best pleased with the casting at the time.
Dita Von Teese
Brunette bombshell Dita Von Teese is best known to fans as the queen of modern day burlesque and the ex-wife of shock-rocker Marilyn Manson.
But for those who are unaware, Dita also made an appearance on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Season 11, Episode 12.
The star’s role on CSI was her first acting debut but she later went on to appear in adult movies, an indie fantasy film, and many documentaries on burlesque and fetish modelling.
While appearing on the hit crime programme, Dita played the role of Ellen Whitebridge, who was also known as Rita Von Squeeze.
Dita’s character was a semi-fictitious version of herself who was determined on receiving retribution for a 70-year-old miscarriage of justice which led to her grandfather’s incarceration, after he was framed for the murder of her grandmother.
Due to this, her character became a serial killer, electrocuting the descendants of her grandmother’s real killers.
