Nick Grimshaw – affectionately known to his fans as ‘Grimmy’ has announced the news that he will be leaving Radio 1 after 14 years on the show.
The popular host took to Twitter, stating that he has fulfilled his ‘childhood dream’ by working on the station, but that it was time to move on.
He took to the air, saying that his decision followed ‘the most surreal, weirdest 18 months of life ever’ – presumably in reference to the pandemic.
‘You have to take stock in times like this and you look at your life. I looked at mine and I wanted to make that change’, he said.

Nick will be leaving the air waves on August 12 2021 and his replacements will take over in September 2021.
He Joined the crew at Radio 1 back in 2007 when he co-presented with Annie Mac – who left on 30 July 2021.
In 2018, after six years on the station, Nick eventually swapped roles with Greg James and took over his drive time slot.
Grimmy hasn’t disclosed what he is moving on to next – but fans are excited to hear.

Nick will be replaced by two well-known presenters.
Both Vick Hope and Jordan North have been recruited to help fill the successful presenter’s boots for the drive time show.
‘Taking over drive is a task we won’t be taking lightly”, Vick said in a statement, “but Jordan and I are ready to put our all into making your journey home that little bit brighter.’
