Where the cast of Fight Club are now – heart attack and on-stage collapse

Since its release in 1999, members of the cast have gone on to be some of the most famous faces in Hollywood.

The likes of Brad Pitt, Jared Leto, and Helena Bonham Carter went on to be household names after David Fincher’s staggering adaption of the Chuck Palahniuk book.

It opened to mixed reviews at the time, but has gone on to become a cult classic ever since.

It wasn’t a roaring success on opening weekend, taking $11 million and maxing out at $37 million at the U.S. box office.

To compare, Fox spent $65 million to make it.

However it then went on to sell more than six million copies on DVD.

We take a look at what the stars of the movie have been up to in the twenty years since we learned the first rule of ‘Fight Club’: you don’t talk about ‘Fight Club’.

From Hollywood success to heart attacks, here’s what some of the cast have done since.

Edward Norton

Edward Norton starred as The Narrator, one of the leads in the film.

Before landing this incredible role, Norton had starred as Derek Vinyard in 1998’s ‘American History X.’

He also won a Golden Globe for his roles as Aaron and Roy in 1996’s ‘Primal Fear’.

Following Fight Club, he found further success behind the camera. He produced and directed ‘Motherless Brooklyn’ (2000) and ‘Keeping The Faith’ (2019).

Norton also played Mike in the arty ‘Birdman’ (2014) and Henckels in Wes Anderson’s stunning ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ (2014).

The actor was previously linked to Courtney Love and Salma Hayek, and he has been married to Canadian film producer Shauna Robertson since 2012.

He’s known for being larger than life, and many crew members claim he’s not the easiest to worth with.

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt’s role as Tyler Durden might be one of his most famous.

Director David Fincher had already previously worked with Pitt in ‘Se7en’, and gave him the ‘Fight Club’ script to read while he was on set filming ‘Meet Joe Black’.

Before playing Tyler Durden, Pitt had appeared as Louis in ‘Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles’ (1994), Mills in ‘Se7en’ (1995), and Joe Black in ‘Meet Joe Black’ (1998).

He went on to win a best picture Oscar for ‘12 Years a Slave’ in 2013.

Pitt also played Rusty Ryan in the ‘Ocean’s’ trilogy, and it became a joke that his character was always filmed eating.

He then starred as Cliff Booth in 2019’s Tarantino epic ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.’

He also produced Netflix’s “The OA” as well as producing and starring in 2019’s ‘Ad Astra’.

At the time, he was dating Jennifer Aniston and they announced their engagement later that year. They married in 2000 and divorced in 2005.

He then married Angelina Jolie, before divorcing in 2016.

Brad has since described his love life as a “disaster”.

Helena Bonham Carter

Helena Bonham played the damsel in distress Marla. She was Durden’s leading lady, and she meets Norton’s The Narrator at a support group.

After her role in ‘Fight Club’, Bonham Carter became a familiar face in Tim Burton films.

She previously dated Kenneth Branagh, but the couple split in 1999. She then went on to be with Tim Burton for 13 years, until they split in 2014. Helena has been dating Rye Dag Holmboe since 2019.

She appeared in the 2010 remake of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’ (2007).

Bonham Carter made an excellent villain in the Harry Potter series as Bellatrix LeStrange, before playing Princess Margaret in ‘The Crown’ and Mrs Holmes in ‘Enola Holmes’.

Jared Leto

Leto appeared in ‘Fight Club’ as Angel Face, who was Durden’s right-hand man.

He also played Casey in ‘Black and White’ and Tobias Jacobs in ‘Girl Interrupted.’

Leto also appeared as Paul Allen in ‘American Psycho,’ Harry Goldfarb in the disturbing ‘Requiem for a Dream,’ and Glen Walker in ‘Sunset Strip.’

Leto moved into the world of music, and is the frontman for rock band 30 Seconds To Mars.

He famously gained more than 50 pounds to play John Lennon’s killer, Mark David Chapman, in ‘Chapter 27’ (2007).

Leto then played the Joker in ‘Suicide Squad’ (2016).

Over the years he has dated Cameron Diaz and Lindsay Lohan, but has been dating model Valery Kaufman on-and-off since 2015.

Meat Loaf

He was already a household name for his music, but Meat Loaf played Robert “Bob” Paulsen in ‘Fight Club’.

He was a former bodybuilder who suffered from testicular cancer.

His previous roles included Eddie in 1975’s “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

Since ‘Fight Club’, he appeared as Doug Rennie on the SyFy show ‘Ghost Wars,’ which ended in 2018.

Meat Loaf has had a hugely successful career and went vegan for a while

He’s suffered with ill health recently, cancelling many tours and shows.

During a show in London in 2003, he suffered a heart attack during the performance, and then collapsed onstage in 2016.

He vowed to go vegan in 2020.

Meat Loaf recently lost long-time collaborator Jim Steinman, who died in April.

Zach Grenier

Zach Grenier appeared as The Narrator’s boss.

He’s one of those familiar faces you probably recognise from TV without ever knowing his name.

Since his minor role in the film, he has mostly been starring in television shows.

He appeared as Carl Webb on Fox’s ’24’, Andy Cramed on ‘Deadwood’, and David Lee on ‘The Good Wife.’

More recently he starred in ‘Ray Donovan’ and ‘Devs’.
