Whoopi Goldberg recently left an awkward taste in viewers’ mouths after a rather blunt response during a televised debate about Meghan Markle.
Channel 5 viewers are in for a treat on Monday afternoon as the musical classic Sister Act, starring fan-favourite Whoopi, airs, which is sure to fill homes up and down the country with joy.
The 66-year-old may be known for her hilarious films, but in more recent years the actress has been more vocal on political matters too.
One memorable moment of this was when she shared her thoughts on the tension between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and the rest of the Royal Family.
The TV comic went viral back in March this year following the controversial interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and American sweetheart Oprah Winfrey.
After the TV special aired internationally, Whoopi aired her opinions on the Royal Family alongside Meghan McCain during a CBS interview.
McCain said during the show: “The American experiment is the way to go, and if we have two American women, Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey, who are single-handily finished what George Washington and out revolutionary counterparts did, I’m all for it.”
After an awkward moment of silence, Whoopi simply replied: “OK.”
In the now-legendary interview, the Suits actress alleged that a senior member of the Royal Family raised concerns over what her first-born son Archie’s skin colour would be prior to his birth.
The Duchess also claimed that she was denied help and support regarding her steadily declining mental health, adding at one stage she “didn’t want to be alive anymore”.
But she wasn’t the only person who aired their concerns with the royal household as Prince Harry claimed that Charles and his brother William are also “trapped” in the Royal Family.
Following the airing of the overseas interview, the Queen issued a statement which said she was “saddened” by the allegations, but noted that “some recollections may vary”.
Actress Whoopi later questioned whether the Queen is “in touch” with all of the royal affairs on the US chat show The View.
She confessed: “I don’t know, I wonder how really connected everybody is.
“If [The Queen] missed it with Diana and she missed it with Meghan maybe she’s not as tuned in as we thought.
“But I think it’ll be interesting to see what happens because it’s kind of rare for her to come out and actually say something.”
