William Shatner, 90, confesses he's 'terrified of aliens' as he prepares to go to space

Shatner, 90, is preparing to become the oldest ever astronaut when he boards Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ new rocket, the New Shepard, as part of Blue Origin’s launch on Tuesday.

And the James T Kirk star, who famously met ETs during his reign on the USS Enterprise, admits that when he looks out the window he doesn’t want to see aliens.

He said: “I’m thinking, ‘I’m going up in a rocket and our best guess is it should be fine?” I’m terrified. I’m Captain Kirk, and I’m terrified.

“I’m not really terrified — yes I am. It comes and goes like a summer cold.”

“What will I see when I am out there? I want to press my nose up against the plastic window.

“What I don’t want to see is somebody else out there looking back at me. No, no we don’t want that one.

“Not only will I see the majesty of space and the Oasis of earth, but isn’t there a possibility that things fly by as we’ve seen on cameras? I am freaked out man.

The actor says he does believe in lifeforms from other galaxies.

He added: “I have been told that there are extremophiles living in 600 degrees Fahrenheit water in sulphur 30 feet below the ocean and in sulphur, and they’re alive these worms and these clams.

“Are these UFOs being piloted by worms and clams? I don’t know.

“But they’re unidentified. That’s for sure. Who’s flying them? Well, that’s the question.”

He joked: “Everybody thinks there is a little green men up in space, but it’s big green women.”

Shatner also mocked the Blue Origin shuttle, which has been compared by many people to a penis.

He said: “We’re inseminating the space program. But it certainly does look funny when they say insertion.

“I know. And things like that go up and boom in the night and it’s a little scary I got to tell you.”

However the star became serious, expressing his concern about his breathing on the journey.

“My fear is as you go up that you can’t draw breath though that apparently is not going to happen. But that’s what they say. I’m really quite apprehensive as you might have guessed.

“I’m a little bit nervous. There’s an element of chance here.”
