On Friday’s episode, funny-man Bradley Walsh told hopeful James that he should be absolutely proud of himself as he was able to bag £60k into to the final chase.
It came as an absolute shock as the contestant only managed to get three questions right in the show’s initial cash-builder round.
James did thrillingly in the head-to-head round against The Chaser, Anne Hegarty, aka The Governess, who he absolutely dominated, leaving many viewers starstruck.
A beaming Bradley Walsh said: “I’ll tell you what happened, a very good young player came on the show and took back £60,000 in a head-to-head at the table against the third-best female player on the planet – that’s just what’s happened.”
Leicester, born 22-year-old James, who moved to London, is a sales executive that left viewers, the audience and Bradley absolutely stunned as he daringly chose to face off The Chaser with a £50k offer on the table.
Taking to Twitter, fans were convinced that the young adult would instantly get caught as he did so tragically in the cash builder round, where he only managed to get 3 out of the 12 questions right.
Looking back on James’s performance, one viewer tweeted: “James did atrociously in that first round but in the head-to-head, he absolutely smashed it.”
Another penned: “I respect anyone that goes for the higher amount – respect to you James.”
In the episode, Bradley Walsh guided James and Lynn in the final Chase where they played for £53k and had a good score of 18, despite being two contestants down – Ed and Alice had previously been caught.
However, it was standout star 22-year-old James, who received a round of applause, from the show’s host, as his risk of going big in the head-to-head round, saw him single-handily rake in the most money for his two-man team.
He ran the final with 45-year-old Scottish born Lynn, who contributed £3k to the overall £63,000 jackpot.
In nail-biting-scenes, the 2-man-team were able to push The Governess back a total of 4 steps, which helped them secure overall victory – as they had beaten the “third-best female player on the planet”.
An overjoyed Bradley confirmed that the pair would be able to split the £63k jackpot, with them each taking home £31,500,000 each.
James’s performance no doubt proves that even younger people can go head-to-head against the nation’s smartest quizmasters and come out victorious.
