‘Allo ‘Allo star Robin Parkinson has died at the age of 92 with his wife by his side.
The actor, who was best known for playing Monsieur Ernest Leclerc in the beloved sitcom, had an impressive career that spanned decades.
A statement issued on behalf of his family said: “Robin Parkinson, actor, known for ‘Allo ‘Allo and as the voice of Button Moon, has died peacefully at the age of 92 with his wife and daughters by his side.”
Robin was a regular on screens throughout the 70s and 80s and thanks to his distinguished career, was regarded by many as TV royalty.
His four-decade long career in television included series such as Girls About Town, The Many Wives Of Patrick, The Young Ones and Rising Damp.
He appeared as the second actor to portray Monsieur Ernest Leclerc after the death of Derek Royle and became a familiar face of comedy in the 1970s and 1980s.
After becoming a household name for the role, Robin reprised the ‘Allo ‘Allo! character for the West End stage version and tour of Australia in the 1990s.
The comedy actor featured in many other theatrical productions, with his first professional appearance being in the Birmingham Repertory Theatre production of The Imperial Nightingale.
Robin, who was born in Coventry, was also known for narrating and providing voices to the ITV television series Button Moon.
He was also the voice for the 1980s TV adverts for Tunes and Babycham.
His daughter, Sarah, followed in his footsteps and embarked on an acting career.
She also had a career as a producer and writer of radio and television programmes and was married to stand-up comedian Paul Merton.
In September 2003, Sarah died aged 41 after a battle with breast cancer.
The actor also has another daughter named Rebecca who works in television production.
