Angelina Jolie visits Ukrainian city of Lviv amid ongoing Russian invasion

Hollywood icon Angelina Jolie has travelled to Ukraine amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis after Russian forces invaded the country on February 24.

The 46-year-old was spotted in the city of Lviv which has been devastated by shelling since February.

Although Angelina is known for her humanitarian work and efforts, not much is known about the purpose of her visit.

Walking casually into a coffee shop alongside a friend, the Gia actress looked relaxed while wearing wide-legged grey trousers and an oversized jumper.

Angelina was quickly noticed by onlookers but she made sure to interact with fans who were clearly excited by her presence.

A short video was also shared on Facebook by Maya Pidhorodetska who could be heard saying: “Nothing special. Just Lviv. I just went to have coffee. Just Angelina Jolie.”

“Ukraine is simply supported by the whole world,” she added.

Mother-of-six Angelina often visits countries that may be going through conflict as part of her humanitarian mission, with the UN Special Envoy.

In March, Angelina visited Yemen where she spoke with displaced families. After arriving in the capital city of Aden, she also joined the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to provide aid to those in need.

The Hollywood legend first spoke out in support of the people of Ukraine at the start of the Russian invasion back in February, to say that she was praying for those who have been affected by the devastating bombing and ongoing crisis.

Taking to social media, she wrote at the time: “Like many of you, I’m praying for the people in Ukraine.

Angelina made time to speak with fans who quickly recognised her

“My focus along with my @refugees colleagues is that everything possible is done to ensure the protection and basic human rights of those displaced, and refugees in the region.

“We have already seen reports of casualties and people starting to flee their homes to seek safety.”

She added to the emotional post: “It is too soon to know what will happen, but the significance of this moment – for the people of Ukraine, and for the international rule of law – cannot be overstated.”
