Anne Robinson admits reason why she 'turned off' Rachel Riley's mic on Countdown

Anne Robinson has explained why she asked for her Countdown co-star Rachel Riley’s microphone to be “turned off” during an interview with Piers Morgan.

The former Weakest Link presenter, 77, was the latest guest to appear on the former Britain’s Got Talent judge’s TalkTV show Uncensored.

As she joined the 57-year-old broadcaster on the show, she addressed rumours of a TV feud between herself and the maths whizz following her announcement that she was leaving the Channel 4 daytime show.

During the tense interview, the fiery redhead praised her co-star for being “brilliant at maths” but confessed after months of working with her that the TV star “likes a lot of noise around her”.

Anne confessed that after one awkward recording she asked for Rachel’s microphone to be turned off.

Piers opened with: “You’ve just left Countdown which a lot of fans will be very upset about. You were brilliant on it. I read the tealeaves, people weren’t getting on great would that be fair, all of you?”

She replied: “Susie Dent is great, Rachel Riley is completely brilliant at the maths.”

It was at this point that Piers probed: “You just didn’t get on well?” to which she disagreed: “No, I didn’t not get on.

“But some performers like a lot of noise around them before they go on air and others like me, who are trying to get the contestants to remember what their hobbies are, would like some quiet while she’s doing that.

“So it was important to me that we took her mic off so that I could have [quiet].”

The dad-of-four then asked what the TV veteran planned on doing next after working on two legendary daytime shows.

Anne revealed: “I don’t know. I thought if you upset them here, I could just move in,” as Piers agreed: “We could take you on TalkTV, you’d be fantastic!”

Poking fun at his new show, the starlet cheekily quipped: “Is the money good enough?” as the former Good Morning Britain presenter joked: “Look at this suit.”
